Antioxidiant’s, Anti-Microbial’s and Natural Preservatives

OVERVIEW OF ANTIOXIDANT & ANTI-MICROBIAL INGREDIENTS

PhytoPharmacon has invested over eight years to ensemble a truly unique and almost impossible to duplicate assets of natural product libraries (plants, plant extracts natural product extracts and pure compounds). These assets are used as a basis to develop novel Ingredients for functional foods, nutraceuticals, cosmetic, pharmaceutical and other products for a variety of industries. PhytoPharmacon maintains all of their plants germplasm and are grown in fields in North Carolina.

NUTRACEUTICAL ANTIOXIDANTS:

INGREDIENTS FOR NUTRACEUTICALS AND FUNCTIONAL FOODS

  • PhytoPharmacon offers products that are produced by super critical fluid extraction (SCF) that yields concentrated active components.
  • The active components (marker compounds) are quantified to meet the stringent Certificate of Analysis (CoA) requirements.
  • All ingredients are tested for appropriate biological activity.
  • We are able to provide our customers consistently high quality products due to our capabilities for large scale cultivation, down-stream processing and SCF in North Carolina and Southern India.

SEVERAL INGREDIENTS HAVE BEEN EVALUATED FOR THEIR ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITIES FOR NUTRACEUTICALS:

To determine the antioxidant capability we have used Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) assay, where results from different samples are compared with Trolox®, (6-hydroxy-2,5,7,8-tetrametmethylchroman-2-carboxylic acid) a water soluble vitamin E analog and ORAC results are expressed as Trolox® equivalents. ORAC values are calculated using the regression equation between Trolox concentration and the net AUC and are expressed as micromole Trolox equivalents per gram of sample. Products are:

Intellectual properties: We have three different published patents (pending) disclosing formulations of standardized extracts. We have several other ingredients in our pipeline that are antioxidant that can be used in nutraceuticals. Please contact us for more information on our nutraceutical antioxidant leads and products.

OTHER ANTI-MICROBIAL/ANTI-OXIDANT INGREDIENT (VARIETY USES)

Several extracts are characterized for antimicrobial and anti-oxidant activity. Phytopharmacon has conducted field studies for 2 years with reproducible results and have supplied extracts in gram quantities to the nutrition and cosmetic industry. Chemical extraction, enrichment and Identification of the lead marker compounds have been standardized. These standardized extracts are highly enriched in active ingredients. PhytoPharmacon has developed the technology for the manufacturing of BP1508 The plant is cultivated under standardized agronomic conditions. The mature plant is harvested dried, comminuted into a coarse powder and extracted with a solvent by the standardized methods. The solvent is removed and the material is ground into a fine powder for formulation. This powder can be formulated for any nutritional or cosmetic products.

Following are some of the examples

BP1510 is a standardized ingredient with history of safe use and has been validated with in-house biological activities. Plants used for extraction were grown by exploratory seed collection and cultivation in NC farms. BP1510 can be used as a preservative in food and Cosmetic products. Developed to reduce both the Gram +ve and Gram –ve bacteria in food and cosmetic ingredients. Standardized for potent inhibition of wide range of bacteria at Micromolar concentrations. A safe product from a GRAS plant. Please contact us for more information on our other antioxidant leads and products that has a variety of different uses.

BPPGE (Psidium guajava) is an extract of the leaf of the guava, Psidium guajava, Myrtaceae family. Alternative names: Guajaven-Extrakt, Guava Extract, Guave . This product is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) for human consumption. Several in vitro studies demonstrated the applicability of this naturally occurring antioxidant as an ingredient in foods in order to increase their oxidative stability. The extracts from guava were found to possess strong antioxidant activity. The antioxidant mechanisms of guava leaf extracts may be attributed to their free radical-scavenging ability. In addition, phenolic compounds appear to be responsible for the antioxidant activity of guava extracts. On the basis of the results obtained, guava extracts from the leaf can be used for a variety of beneficial chemo-preventive effects (Ref. H.-Y. Chen, G.-C. Yen / Food Chemistry 101 (2007) 686–694 and H.-Y. Chen et al. Food Chemistry, 104 (2007) 1418–1424).

PhytoPharmacon has several Antimicrobial and Anti-Oxidants that can also be used as natural preservatives. Both BP1510 and BP1508 are ready for use in Food and cosmetic ingredients as a natural preservative. Both standardized ingredient's has a history of safe use and in-house testing of biological activities.
